We give the “NY See You Later 2017 Best of Canada” award to My Greek Plate.

NY See You Later 2017 Best of Canada

The 20 ounce, AAA bone-in ribeye steak from My Greek Plate set a new standard for quality and taste. We honestly can’t recall a steak as memorable as this one. It is covered in shrimp and a delicious sauce, and served with a Greek salad for only $35 Canadian ($27 USD). During our first night in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, my wife selected the restaurant based on the rave reviews. I ordered this steak and everyone at the table was astonished by the quality and flavor.

We visited several other restaurants in Banff and Canmore during our stay, but nothing compared to this steak. So we made a return reservation for our last night, saving the best for last. Yianni and his partner, Nikolas, the chef, are passionate perfectionists who left a 5-star restaurant at a world famous Canadian hotel to open this restaurant according to their exacting standards. Their desire to serve perfect dishes pushes them to work every day of the week—over 90 hours—with no time off.

Yianni is a gracious host, and delivers the kind of service that only a proud owner can provide. We made Nikolas’ acquaintance when he served the flambé cheese appetizer, kefalograviera (Greek gryuere). He returned after the last table had been served for a scintillating conversation about the history and origins of foods, the world and Greece, while we devoured the ekmek kataifi desert. We fell in love with steak, cheese, food, wine, history and humanity all over again. We felt like travel show hosts conducting an epic interview with passionate, talented restauranteurs.

We had a better dining experience at My Greek Plate than almost anywhere, including NYC. We caught a few photos of the meat and seafood plates as they passed by and we were completely blown away by the portions and display.

It is because of this restaurant that we have decided to create the “NY See You Later Best of” awards in which we will name our favorite experiences everywhere we travel. We give the “NY See You Later 2017 Best of Canada” award to My Greek Plate.

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille. We met at church in NYC in 2010 and in 2011 we were married in Central Park on the bow bridge. In the last 6 years of marriage we stopped paying NYC rent, and bought a place on the edge of Hoboken, NJ, with spectacular views of the NYC skyline, which has been really fulfilling for photography enthusiasts. We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would make it difficult as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So we sold our place and furniture, left some great jobs, and friends and decided to have travel the world before we have kids. We’re cultured, but not fancy. We've been to 21 countries, and would love to visit all of them. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible.
