The spectacle of the Rolex 24 at Daytona endurance sports car race is as visually intense as it is audibly deafening. The roar of engine thunder sounds like a fighter jet invasion. The smell of gasoline and burned rubber is asphyxiating to race fans. The world’s most exotic performance machines race by like speeding bullets at eye level from the infield at turn 6.
Leaving the crowd paralyzed with excitement, Lambourghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, Audis, Corvettes, prototypes and more tear up the pavement at record breaking speeds on a Florida-perfect day in late January.
After the fumes settled on the the grueling 24 hour race, the checkered flag signaled that the team of Christian Fittipaldi and João Barbosa would be entering the winners’ circle and record books, with a mind-boggling distance of 808 laps and 2,876.48 miles.
