Cerro Frias

Eagles, hawks, sparrows, guanacos, cows, horses and pumas are your neighbors at Cerro Frias, a private farm, in El Calafate, Argentina. And the Patagonian views of Lake Argentina, the third largest lake in South America, and Mount Fitz Roy on the border between Argentina and Chile are unbeatable.

Our tour guide—the very capable 4×4 Range Rover driver—spoke perfect English and Spanish and lives on the land with his wife, so he was an amazing source of information. We felt like we were in a commercial for Range Rover as we ascended rocky terrain at inclines of over forty-five degrees at times and crossed crevices on log bridges. The ride was exhilarating and the views from the mountain were breathtaking.

Upon return to the resort from the 4×4 mountain adventure, you are welcomed by the genuinely friendly staff with a warm pumpkin bisque soup and the best steak empanadas in Argentina. The churrasco lunch of pumpkin, potatoes, chicken and steak served on a tabletop grill was superb. Just when you think that lunch couldn’t get any better, they unveil an amazing, authentic flan with a side of the best dulce de leite ever.

Coffee, tea and the view of the Andes Mountains are the perfect way to relax after an epic lunch, before an afternoon of zip lining or horseback riding in one of Argentina’s most beautiful landscapes.

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille. We met at church in NYC in 2010 and in 2011 we were married in Central Park on the bow bridge. In the last 6 years of marriage we stopped paying NYC rent, and bought a place on the edge of Hoboken, NJ, with spectacular views of the NYC skyline, which has been really fulfilling for photography enthusiasts. We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would make it difficult as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So we sold our place and furniture, left some great jobs, and friends and decided to have travel the world before we have kids. We’re cultured, but not fancy. We've been to 21 countries, and would love to visit all of them. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible.
