Frutissimo

Açai, (pronounced “ahh-sigh-eee”) in case you’re unfamiliar—North Americans ;)—is as popular in Brazil as gelato is in Italy, or popcorn at the movies in the U.S. It is a purple berry that is frozen to the consistency of a puree, and is sold as a desert or anytime snack, like ice cream. It is available “naturally”—without toppings—or as we prefer, with everything (e.g., bananas, mangos, strawberries, nuts, powdered condensed milk, chocolate sauce, honey, and Pirouline cookies to name a few). It is believed to be high in antioxidants, protein and other healthy ingredients.

After extensive, and satisfying, research we unanimously chose Frutissimo as our favorite Açai purveyor. The quality, portions and prices are as perfectly blended as their creations. I’m sure that the fountain of youth is sharing a one-liter açai, covered in toppings, with your family or friends on the “Passarela” (main walkway in town) overlooking the bay of Porto Seguro! It definitely made me feel younger, anyway.

On one of our visits we had the pleasure of meeting Joao, the owner, who hired me on the spot! My enthusiasm for açai transcended the language barrier. He gave me a hat and introduced us to the team. In addition to açai, they also make a wide variety of surprisingly intricate desserts, such as “Sorvete asado” (grilled ice cream) and more. We visited so often that we started to recognize the manager and staff.

It is with sweet dreams that we award the “NY See You Later 2018 Best Açai in Porto Seguro” title to Frutissimo.

Definitivamente me fez sentir mais jovem.

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille. We met at church in NYC in 2010 and in 2011 we were married in Central Park on the bow bridge. In the last 6 years of marriage we stopped paying NYC rent, and bought a place on the edge of Hoboken, NJ, with spectacular views of the NYC skyline, which has been really fulfilling for photography enthusiasts. We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would make it difficult as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So we sold our place and furniture, left some great jobs, and friends and decided to have travel the world before we have kids. We’re cultured, but not fancy. We've been to 21 countries, and would love to visit all of them. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible.
