Palancar Gardens Diving

If you’re looking for memorable diving experience in Cozumel, Mexico, then lose your sandals and head to Barefoot Dive Center. Omer, the owner, is one of the funniest, most friendly people in town, and his enthusiasm for life and diving is contagious. Even though he was opening a second location in Playa del Carmen the following Monday, and couldn’t have been busier, he still made time to welcome new friends and to take some hilarious subway handle photos.

Lana, an Austrailan diver with a big smile, made the paperwork and logistics painless, and paired us with master diver Matias, for excellent experiences beneath the water. Everyone at Barefoot treated us like family and friends, and we can’t wait to dive with them in the future.

Our first stop was the vibrant reef at Palancar Gardens. We spoke with several divers who were disappointed with the decay of Australia’s Great Barrier reef, so it’s encouraging to see that this reef is full of colorful life and energy. The divers at Barefoot are protective of the reefs and advise against using non-biodegradable sunscreens and touching anything.

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille. We met at church in NYC in 2010 and in 2011 we were married in Central Park on the bow bridge. In the last 6 years of marriage we stopped paying NYC rent, and bought a place on the edge of Hoboken, NJ, with spectacular views of the NYC skyline, which has been really fulfilling for photography enthusiasts. We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would make it difficult as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So we sold our place and furniture, left some great jobs, and friends and decided to have travel the world before we have kids. We’re cultured, but not fancy. We've been to 21 countries, and would love to visit all of them. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible.
