He gave away too many nails from his vessel as presents to the Hawaiians, and his ship was compromised is the rough seas. When he returned with an ill crew and broken mast, the Hawaiians surmised that he was not a diety, and the welcome was less cordial. He met his end at the reef that bears his name—the very reef where we enjoyed a day of snorkeling with a friendly turtle and countless fish.
The adventure allows for over two hours in the water, and features fresh watermelon, fruit, turkey sandwiches, beverages and a lifetime of tall tales.
