Matahari Divers on the Perhentian Islands of Malaysia is your one-stop-shop for accommodations, diving, meeting friendly divers from all over the world and joining their community. The Malaysian owner, Jeng, our Irish divemaster Meghan, French divemaster Guillaume, Scottish divemaster-in-training Catherine, Jam from France, Janessa from Hawaii and the entire crew form a United Nations-esque diving community. Approach with caution, though, as you may never want to leave.
For our first dive, we visited the “Police Wreck.” At a depth of 18 meters, this 50 minute dive featured three ships sunk in 2012, and frequently features appearances by stingrays, bamboo sharks, countless large schools of fish and trigger fish.
Batu Caping is the name of our second dive location. Maximum depth for this dive was 22 meters, and offered many swim throughs. Although it’s only 15 minutes from shore, only two dive shops visit this site.
