About Dan & Emille

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille and we’ve got a story to tell. We met in 2010 at a church in NYC and in 2011 we were married in a romantic wedding in Central Park on the Bow Bridge. Three years later, we bought our first home, with amazing NYC skyline views, in Union City, NJ. in November 2017, we sold it, and planned a 6-month world tour before we start our family.

We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would have made it difficult to raise them with family help as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So, we pragmatically sold our first home in Jersey, forcing us to leave some great jobs and friends. We’ve made a decision to travel the world before starting our family. We’re cultured, but not fancy; travelers, but not well traveled. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible. Emille speaks Portuguese fluently, and we both speak a little Spanish. We love to laugh, design goofy t-shirts, make funny videos and remember that life should be lived to the fullest while making time to pause and appreciate it. Although we’re saying, “See you later” to NYC, we’ll take a piece of it with us wherever we go—literally—in the form of an NYC subway handle!

There are several nicknames that we use for each other, which you will hear in our videos. For example, Emille affectionately refers to Dan as, “Chato” (which means “annoying” in Brazilian Portuguese, and is used by couples to joke with each other) and “Chato Bear” (because Dan’s German-Italian heritage leaves him a bit on the hairy side, although he goes to great lengths to not appear so), while Dan calls Emille, “Lil’ Babe,” “Chata” (pronounced “sha-ta”) and “Chata Babe.” Dan is a creative, adventurous type and is always trying out drastically different hair and beard styles—some of them work, some of them don’t.

We’re both ardent about faith, fitness, food (organic and healthy, when possible) and of course, travel. We believe in leaving the world a cleaner place than we found it. Emille is really into CrossFit (5x/week), and Dan is really passionate about photography and design. We bought a Sony a7rii in 2016 before our trip to Italy, Greece and Croatia. We’ve invested in Sony G-Master 24-70mm and 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses and a DJI Mavic Pro drone for our 2018 world tour. Dan is a graphic designer with some video editing and effects experience, and Emille is a talented saleswoman with a talent for social media, travel planning and research. Dan’s first job was at Walt Disney World, so he was trained in the highest level of customer service, professionalism and friendliness. So when he recognizes customer service anywhere in the world as being exemplary service, rest assured that it’s top-notch.

Currently, our travel list is as follows: Brazil, Peru, (Machu Picchu), Venezuela, Galapagos Islands, Panama, Hawaii, Southeast Asia, and Europe (as much as possible). We’ve been to: Brazil, Italy, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Canada (Niagara Falls and Toronto and soon, Banff); and by cruise we’ve visited these: Greece, Croatia, Belize, Cozumel, St. Martin, St. John, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Honduras and Key West. Wherever we go, there’ll be photos of us and the NYC subway handle!

In January, 2018, we obtained Open Water Scuba Certifications, so we’ll be able to explore the 70% of the world that exists below the surface! Ok, our certification limits us to a depth of 60 feet (18 meters), so we won’t be able to cover the entire underwater world, but it will whet our appetites.

Hi, we’re Dan and Emille. We met at church in NYC in 2010 and in 2011 we were married in Central Park on the bow bridge. In the last 6 years of marriage we stopped paying NYC rent, and bought a place on the edge of Hoboken, NJ, with spectacular views of the NYC skyline, which has been really fulfilling for photography enthusiasts. We have been talking about having kids for the last 6 years, but the New York lifestyle would make it difficult as our families are in Florida and Brazil. So we sold our place and furniture, left some great jobs, and friends and decided to have travel the world before we have kids. We’re cultured, but not fancy. We've been to 21 countries, and would love to visit all of them. We try to experience things like the locals as much as possible.
